Aussie Photo Diary: Week 10
Black Point

Hello again. Sorry to say that it’s “photo of the week” this time, because weekday evenings haven’t yielded any pictures you haven’t already seen! This shot is from last Saturday when we went to the Blue Mountains.
Blue Mountains

They’re called the blue mountains because of the blue haze in the air
The three rocks on the left are said to be three aboriginal girls (sisters) who were turned to stone.
I started work this week! All very exciting, but it has rather taken up my photography time.. should have known this would happen really. You might even look at this set of photos and say that they’re “rushed” or “generic”, not to mention “wonky”; I prefer to use words like “complex”, “expressive” or “deep”. Oh and no descriptions either – no time folks, sorry
Day 36: Saturday 2nd January 2010
Berrys Bay

This week was all about the build up to 2010, really. As I write this the city is recovering from the massive party and returning to normal, and next week I’ll be starting my new job. We’ve also had a fair bit of English weather recently, so I’m hoping that will give way to blue skies again soon!
Day 29: Saturday 26th December 2009
Fog
Low cloud swallows the city. More lousy weather! Also a bit of a wonky photo…

This week was all about doing one’s best to remember that, in spite of the heat and the long days, it’s Christmas: this often involved staring at Christmas trees for several hours, or listening to Slade on an endless loop…
Day 22: Saturday 19th December 2009
Manly Beach
I’d noticed that at weekends a plane scrawls the words ‘call mum’ in the skies over Sydney, which I initially took as a quirky sentimental message from a pilot with too much time and money, but later on I found out that it’s all part of some marketing campaign by a communications company. Should’ve known. Read more »
Week three mostly involved running around sorting out living arrangements (not photographically exciting really), but we managed to do some fun stuff too
Day 15: Saturday 12th December 2009
Ferry Handy
We actually spent Saturday sunning ourselves on a beach in Manly, but afterwards we hopped on one of the many great Sydney Ferries to meet up with a friend in the savvy neighbourhood of Balmain. Read more »
Weeeeell this week’s been as mad as a box of frogs.
With the clock ticking before we ran out of money to give to hotel managers, we hit the property rental market hard. There were ups, there were downs; panic, and then relief. Maybe soon we can relax and ‘be tourists’ with the rest of the POMs.
Day 8: Saturday 5th December 2009
Hunting For Houses

We spent practically a whole day online looking for apartments that were near to the city and connected to where I’ll be working in January. Read more »
Here we go…
This is the first weekly instalment of my photo-a-day diary of life in Sydney, Australia. Since jetting off from London at the end of November and stopping over in Beijing, my girlfriend and I have finally arrived in the city. And it’s Summer in the city. We win.
Day 1: Saturday 28th November 2009
Heathrow

As expected, Heathrow T3 was pretty busy, but who cares? Bye bye British Winter! Read more »
